Activities negatively affecting biodiversity-sensitive areas

April 25, 2024

Industrial activities, construction projects, and agriculture all have significant negative impacts on biodiversity-sensitive areas. Extracting natural resources disrupts habitats and causes species extinction, while pollution from factories and industrial sites affects areas far from the source. Urban expansion fragments habitats and increases pollution. Agriculture contributes to deforestation and habitat loss through monoculture farming and excessive pesticide use. To mitigate these effects, businesses must conduct environmental impact assessments, relocate operations away from sensitive areas, restore affected habitats, implement sustainable urban planning, and adopt sustainable agricultural practices. Considering biodiversity in ESG assessments and adopting sustainable practices can improve businesses' ESG scores and contribute to preserving biodiversity.
