France Invest 2023 / ESG Reporting – IE 8.1. If yes, please check the types of emissions covered by the target

IE 8.1 of the France Invest ESG Reporting Framework asks companies to specify which types of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are included in their reduction targets. This is to determine if the company’s targets encompass direct emissions (Scope 1), indirect emissions related to purchased energy (Scope 2), and/or indirect emissions from the value chain (Scope 3).

1. How to answer this question ?

If the company has established GHG reduction targets, it should check in the multiple-choice questionnaire (MCQ) the relevant scopes covered by its targets. This requires a clear understanding of the scope of its emissions and the targets set for each category.

2. Why is it important ?

Clarifying the scopes covered by reduction targets is important for assessing the extent of the company’s sustainability commitment and for communicating its environmental strategy to stakeholders. It also shows the company’s compliance with international initiatives such as the Paris Agreement and the Science Based Targets initiative.

3. Examples :

– Example A: “Our company has committed to reducing our Scope 1 emissions by 25% and our Scope 2 emissions by 15% by 2025.”

– Example B: “We aim for a 30% reduction in our Scope 3 emissions by working with our suppliers to improve energy efficiency throughout our supply chain by 2030.”

By identifying and clearly communicating the types of emissions covered by their reduction targets, companies can demonstrate their proactive action towards a transition to a low-carbon economy.
